Chai Pani is expanding beyond their original Asheville, NC locale and opening a second location in downtown Decatur, taking over the space formerly occupied by Watershed. Husband & wife owners Meherwan & Molly Irani have been praised by food critics and patrons for their "mindblasting" signature style Indian street food. The coffee shop we frequent (Dancing Goats) is right across the street from Chai Pani, and we've been keeping an eye on the place as the exterior has been transformed from Watershed's soft muted colors to bright & bold designs and eagerly awaiting their opening on March 1....

We headed down for dinner on opening night (and so did a ton of other people) and had a great time. Chai Pani is first come first served (no reservations) and considering the crowds we only had about a 30 minute wait. The team at Chai Pani was so accommodating, passing around appetizers and cocktails to diners waiting on a table. When seated, we started with Chai Pani's take on fresh Margaritas (which were awesome), we ordered 2 small plates, and each ordered the non-vegetarian Thali -- everything was super fresh tasting and delicious!.... Pictures below.... If you're in the Decatur or Asheville area, put Chai Pani on your list to try.
