[1] While away, I packed an assortment of magazines & books.... One which I loved and finished in an afternoon was Steve Martin's An Object of Beauty. I was completely taken with Mr. Martin's storytelling and his depth of knowledge of the going's on (both in the public & private view) of the art world. I know he has been a long time collector of fine paintings and one previously owned work has recently been the subject of a forgery scandal, but clearly, Mr. Martin is not one to sit by and let his art advisers do all the work. His fictional tale takes such a personal tone, that he must be drawing on inspiration from past experiences with auction houses, dealers, galleries, and fellow collectors.
[2] I have set up a Twitter account -- @duchessfare. It was long over due, and sparked by restaurant No. 246 twittering a link to my recent blog post on our visit for lunch.
[3] Hable Construction's Hable Hotties Sale continues through tomorrow, July 26, on their 20 X 20 printed pillows. Prices range from $86-$102 and are available while supplies last. Additionally, Hable's Seahorse Hooked Rug Runner is featured on Garnet Hill's Sale of the Day reduced from $198 to $68.
[4] As mentioned in my previous post, The Cashiers Historical Society is hosting their annual Showhouse in August. To be noted, interior designers (and part of Bravo TV's Million Dollar Decorators) Mary McDonald & Nathan Turner will be featured guests at special event on Saturday August 20. Ms. McDonald will also be on hand to sign copies of her book Mary McDonald Interiors: The Allure of Style.
