3 Things to Put on Your Honey-Do List

Monday, July 11, 2011

Saturday held a day full of things I love....  Art, Food, and a little Pampering!  We kicked off our morning with a visit to The High Museum of Atlanta.  It has been on my to-do list, since writing a post about the collaborative exhibit between the High and MoMA.  Modern By Design continues through August 21 and met all of my design expectations.  If you find yourself in the area, it is a must stop!  Experience 2 floors of important contemporary furniture and accessories of the 20th & early 21st centuries.  As you enter the exhibit, the commissioned work of artist Joris Laarman blows you away with the Rococo style tables created by Abby, the robot, out of 3 dimension metal pieces called voxels.

While at the High, be sure to check out the works of Radcliffe Bailey.  Mr. Bailey's exhibition, Memory as Medicine, is on view now through September 11, 2011.  His "Windward Coast" installation -- a vast collection of wooden piano keys is truly wonderful.  Click here to read more from the NY Times and click here to read more & see photos from the Wall Street Journal of Mr. Bailey's contemporary Atlanta home.

Our lunchtime stop was to our dear friends' newly opened retail store and cafe -- Bella Cucina. Having just moved 2 doors down to a larger space on N. Highland in the heart of the VA-Highland neighborhood, the interiors (designed by Smith Hanes), accessorized with Bella Cucina products, and delicious prepared sandwiches & pastries ready to devour, our visit was Bellissimo!  We sampled Bella's take on Pimento Cheese, a slider size Meatball sandwich, pulled Chicken Salad on baguette, a mini Pizzetta with baby onions, and my new favorite sweet -- Death by Chocolate cookies -- divine!!

Our day ended with a little indulgence....  I had just read about a new mani/pedi place down the street on St. Charles, Sugarcoat.  This nail & beauty bar has been opened for a little over 2 months and stresses the importance of followng strict sanitary codes & procedures -- example: opening a package of nail tools for every customer.  The interior design is full of light colors, great bench style seating to relax while getting your toes done, plenty of Essie & OPI nail colors to choose from, and (what I love) no TVs, just relaxing background music.  This is Sugarcoat's 2nd location, they also have a space in Buckhead.
