Thom Smyth

Thom Smyth quickly realized that what was to be easy "flip" renovation, took a expensive turn, when his 175 year old newly purchased investment property was coming apart at the seems.  Once he completed the overhaul remodel, Smyth was left spending as much money on renovations as he had buying the home.  Rather than deal with any more loss and needing to replenish their bank accounts, Smyth and his partner decided to turn their idyllic & sparkling clean New Hope, PA home into a vacation rental.  New Hope's close proximity to NYC and Philadelphia, and its place in the heart of antiques country - Bucks County, has drawn renters in need of a tranquil getaway.  The charm of New Hope and the home's modern amenities has been a success among renters and a positive cash flow for Smyth. Check out the link to an article in today's NY Times and click here for more info on renting Thom Smyth's home.

Great friends of ours here in Atlanta just made a similar vacation rental decision with their own home.  Both love being near the water, the wife is originally from South Carolina and the husband from Maryland.  The couple realized that they could swing 2 months at a rental in Folly Beach, SC by listing their own home on an executive home rental website. This type of website feeds renters brought to a city for an extended work commitment with the desire to stay in a home rather than a hotel.  Our friends quickly found a renter who is part of a production crew, transplanted to Atlanta while filming a movie, and soon what seemed like an unattainable wish of beach living has become their reality. Brilliant!
